In May, Have You Heard? reported that the popular El Pollo Dorado food truck on 21st Street a couple of blocks east of Arkansas would open a restaurant in a building at the property.
“We decided to keep it as a prep area because we have a second food truck that we’re about to start,” says Manuel Osorio, who is a partner in the business with Adrian Santiago Hernandez.
So instead, Osorio says, they’re opening an El Pollo Dorado restaurant at 460 N. West St. in the former Angkor Donuts space. They hope to have the new restaurant ready by early February.
The new food truck will serve the south and west sides of Wichita.

“That one’s going to be a lot more mobile,” Osorio says.
The one on 21st Street generally stays put.
So are east-siders to be denied El Pollo’s famous grilled chicken?
“We’re slowly working on that,” Osorio says.
He’s a busy guy, though. He also just opened a liquor store.
El Maya Liquor will have a grand opening on Saturday at 10607 W. Maple near Maize Road.
The 2,600-square-foot store will sell a variety of liquor but have a special focus on tequila.
“We’re the only store in Kansas that carries over 100 SKUs in tequila,” Osorio says.
He says that’s everything from cheap to expensive brands, including a $600 bottle of Patron Burdeos – his favorite.
“It’s an aged tequila.”
And since he owns the store, Osorio says he gave himself a discount on a bottle.
