The Wichita area unemployment rate moved slightly lower in August compared with July and the same month last year, according to a Kansas Department of Labor report.
The labor department said Friday the unemployment rate in the area — Butler, Harvey, Kingman, Sedgwick and Sumner counties — was 4.8 percent. That compares with an unemployment rate of 4.9 percent in July and 5.2 percent in August 2016.
The area’s total civilian labor force was 310,590 in August, with 14,782 people jobless.
In Kansas, the August rate ticked higher to 3.9 percent from 3.7 percent in July. But the rate was lower than August 2016, when it was 4.3 percent.
