Manpower: Survey indicates steady job growth

Wichita area employers say they expect to hire at a steady pace in the second quarter, from April through June, according to the Manpower Employment Outlook Survey.

Fifteen percent of companies surveyed by the company plan to add workers, while 6 percent expect to cut jobs. That produces a 9 percent gain in the company’s Net Employment Outlook.

The result is higher than the 5 percent gain in the first quarter of 2014, but slower than 12 percent gain in the second quarter of 2013.

As is typical, most employers expect to stay the same or don’t know hiring plans.

According to the survey, job gains will be spread across most sectors, except durable good manufacturing, which will stay the same, and construction and finance, which both plan to trim jobs.
