Security National begins elevator upgrade at downtown high-rise

The owner of the 19-story building at 125 N. Market said Friday it has begun an $800,000 upgrade on the building’s passenger elevators.

Security National Life Insurance Co. said in a news release that the upgrade to the four elevators is expected to last 10 months.

One elevator will be taken offline at a time, with work on each expected to take up to 10 weeks.

“The elevators are safe, but they don’t perform at the speeds and functionality we expect by today’s standards,” Bryce Baker, Security National’s vice president of real estate, said in the release. “We are eliminating the original, analog relay system and replacing it with microprocessor-based ‘smart’ technology. The new system will improve the speed of each elevator and decrease wait times when someone calls an elevator to any floor. This improvement will enhance the overall experience in the building.”

Security National also said the work includes providing elevator access from the building’s parking garage.

Elevator Solutions of Wichita is the contractor for the elevator work.
