The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has created a new website (https://signup.healthcare.gov/) people can use to sign up for e-mailed updates on insurance plans that will be offered under the Affordable Care Act, according to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
The site allows people to provide an e-mail address and their state of residence and then get updates on the implementation of insurance plans, information on benefits and tips on choosing coverage.
The government’s plan is to allow people to view different health insurance plans and associated costs online and then enroll in one. Some individuals who meet certain income requirements also may apply for federal subsidies to help offset the cost of insurance and business owners can find plans to offer employees.
Open enrollment will begin in October and the coverage will begin in January 2014.
