Two of the five finalists for the annual Governor’s Award of Excellence are businesses located in south-central Kansas, according to a news release Tuesday from the Kansas Department of Commerce.
S and Y Industries and Newell Rubbermaid, both based in Winfield, are vying against B&W Trailer Hitches in Humboldt, Community National Bank & Trust in Chanute and PAM Inc. in Topeka.
The winner will be named at the Team Kansas/Kansas Cavalry Awards Banquet on June 11 in Emporia. Ninety-nine businesses were nominated for the award in one of four categories: manufacturing/distribution, service, retail, and hospital/non-profit. Twenty of the nominees received Regional Business Excellence Awards and 79 received merit awards.
The award is part of Kansas’ Business Appreciation Month, which recognizes the contributions Kansas-based businesses make to their communities and the state.
