Kelly named Newton’s Citizen of the Year

Steve Kelly, president and CEO of Newton Medical Center, was named Citizen of the Year by the Newton Area Chamber of Commerce at its 92nd annual banquet on Sept. 13.

The award is given to an individual who has shown service and leadership within the community. Kelly is a member of the Kansas Hospital Association’s board of directors and is chairman of the governor’s task force that considers changes to the state’s Medicaid program.

Kelly has been at Newton Medical Center for 12 years. In that time, the center has grown from 400 employees to more than 600, and its annual revenues have more than tripled, according to a press release. Additionally, Newton Medical Center has expanded with the Medical Plaza in Park City and Valley Center, and a third primary care clinic is planned to open in Sedgwick early next year.
