The Kansas World Trade Center is changing its name to Kansas Global Trade Services.
The group shed its affiliation with the World Trade Center in April and underwent a formal process to pick a new name. Local officials said at the time they dropped membership with the World Trade Center that the Wichita organization didn’t feel its mission meshed well with the national group any longer.
To select a new name, the group had a brain-storming session, which was followed by a focus group and an Internet survey sent to 2,500 of the group’s local customers.
“The new name reflects our mission,” said group CEO Karyn Page. “It’s what we do.”

She said the group won’t suffer from severing the affiliation.
Although the organization remains largely the same, it will take the opportunity to try a few new things, she said.
She is looking into affiliating with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s International Trade Administration. She also said the group has negotiated a pair of agreements that focus on sustainable economic recovery through increasing U.S. exports.
“If you have a new name, that’s a good time to turn over a new leaf and make what you do that much better,” she said.
The group also moved to new quarters. It has left its offices at 125 N. Market and is now housed on the second floor of the Old Town Center, 800 E. First St.
