Butler has been named one of 120 top community colleges in the country by the Aspen Institute College Excellence Program, a nonprofit organization with facilities in Colorado, Washington, D.C., and Maryland.
The citation means Butler will compete for a $1 million fund associated with the 2013 Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence, according to a news release from the Aspen Institute.
The institute said it would assess performance and improvement in four areas: graduation rates, degrees awarded, student retention rates and equity in student outcomes.
The first Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence was awarded in December 2011. Butler is competing for the award that will be announced in March 2013, according to the news release.
