Wesley's community support costs rise slightly in 2011

Wesley Medical Center's total community support increased slightly in 2011.

Hospital executives said its community support was $144.3 million compared with $142.9 million in 2010.

Community support includes income and property taxes as well as charity care, which was $109 million in 2011, an increase of about $200,000 from the year before.

The costs include taxes and services paid at Wesley's primary hospital at 550 N. Hillside as well as Wesley West ER, Surgicare of Wichita and several clinics.
