Jose Gutierrez has taken his volunteer duties up a notch.
The Wichita Hispanic Chamber of Commerce announced Monday that Gutierrez, a Farmers Insurance Group district manager, would serve as its interim director.
Gutierrez will assume the position until a replacement can be found for Abel Perez, the organization’s first executive director who retired last week. Perez had been at the chamber for more than four years.
“I’m trying to be a good catalyst for the full-time director,” Gutierrez said Monday, adding he wants to help the board ensure the organization continues to run smoothly in the absence of a full-time administrative chief.
Gutierrez doesn’t think that he will serve in the interim role for too long.
“It could be one month or it could be four months,” he said. “I doubt it will take us four months.”
He said the most important part of this interim role will be to make sure that members don’t see any interruption to their benefits or services they receive from the chamber.
Gutierrez said this is his second time serving on the chamber board.
He previously served on it for one year when the chamber was founded in 2002. This most recent stint began in March 2010.
He has worked at Farmers Insurance for five years, the past three as district manager. He also has worked as a banking center manager for Bank of America, and for Waitt Media, a southwest Kansas radio station group.
