It’s been a big week for Boeing.
The company announced today that FedEx Express has ordered 27 Boeing 767-300 Freighters and exercised an existing option for two additional 777 Freighters.
On Tuesday, Southwest Airlines became the launch customer for Boeing’s 737 MAX when it placed an order for 150 of the upgraded single-aisle jetliner.
The firm order from Southwest is Boeing's largest in both dollar value and number of aircraft ordered.
The 767 Freighter will be a new model for FedEx Express, based in Memphis, Tenn. FedEx operates a fleet of more than 690 airplanes.
Boeing said that the addition of the 767 Freighters will let FedEx replace its less efficient, medium widebody cargo airplanes with more efficient freighters that provide fuel, maintenance and other cost savings, the company said.
