New BP wind farm to use GE turbines

BP Wind Energy is buying 262 GE 1.6-megawatt wind turbines for its recently-announced Flat Ridge 2 wind farm planed for 66,000 acres in Harper, Barber, Kingman and Sumner counties.

BP is spending $750 million for 350 GE turbines and services at Flat Ridge 2 and a smaller wind farm in Pennsylvania.

GE said the 1.6-100 wind turbine is the world's most efficient wind turbine in its class. Its tower and blades extend more than 300 feet in the air.

"To date, about 30 percent of our wind fleet is powered by GE wind turbines and we are delighted to once again be partnering with GE to deliver affordable, renewable electricity that enhances this nation's energy security and independence," John Graham, president and CEO, BP Wind Energy, said in a statement.
