New and existing home sales in Wichita were up 8.4 percent last month from May, but remain almost 200 units off from 2009, the last year when federal tax credits weren't available in June.
The June sales figures were released this morning by the Wichita Area Association of Realtors and the South Central Kansas Multiple Listing Service.
A total of 729 homes were sold in June, up from 692 in May but off the 922 sold in 2009. A total of 940 homes were sold in June 2010, a month with inflated figures due to the federal homebuyer tax credits that were wrapping up.
Existing home inventories, a measure of the health of the market, dropped slightly in June, down 13 homes from May.
However, inventories remain slightly higher than June 2010.
