Kansas experienced 12 mass layoffs in May, resulting in the loss of 1,365 jobs, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
That's up from 381 job losses in April and 727 in March, but better than the 1,464 jobs lost in May 2010.
A mass layoff is 50 or more initial claims for unemployment insurance benefits filed against an employer during a five-week period, regardless of duration.
