Starting today, The Wichita Eagle will begin offering deeply discounted vouchers through its website and e-mail.
The service, called Dealsaver.com/Wichita, is similar to Groupon.com and LivingSocial.com, in which local companies offer deal-of-the-day discounts of 50 to 90 percent.
However, The Eagle is beginning the new service with a charitable fundraiser in partnership with Freddy's Frozen Custard & Steakburgers.
Freddy's is offering vouchers for $10 worth of food for $5. Freddy's and The Eagle are donating the proceeds to Central Prairie Honor Flights. The flights take World War II veterans to Washington, D.C., to visit the WWII Memorial and other monuments.
"Freddy is a World War II veteran and these flights are near and dear to his heart," said Sarah Selmon, public relations coordinator for Freddy's.
There will be 1,000 Freddy's vouchers offered. Dealsaver also will have a fireworks offer on Thursday.
Those interested in the offer can go online to Kansas.com or go directly to Dealsaver.com/Wichita to register.
Typically, people interested in the deals would purchase the vouchers with a credit card and then be able to print out the voucher or have a special code sent to their smartphone.
With the Freddy's offer, however, those who register and pay will redeem the offer at one of the restaurants. The offer cannot be redeemed until Tuesday.
