Verizon Wireless said today it will begin offering its 4G LTE, or fourth-generation long term evolution, wireless service in the Wichita area on July 21.
Verizon said the service will be available in the city as well as the surrounding towns of Haysville, Derby, Mulvane, Park City, Valley Center, Kechi and Maize.
The 4G service has speeds that are up to 10 times faster than Verizon's 3G network, the company said.
Wichita is one of 145 metropolitan areas that Verizon said will receive 4G this year.
