The Kansas Department of Labor will remove its staff from the Wichita Workforce Center, according to the group that oversees the center, the Workforce Alliance of South Central Kansas.
The center, at 150 N. Main, is where the unemployed can search for work, receive benefits, get counseling and build job search skills.
Keith Lawing, executive director of the alliance, said the alliance received no notice of this action from the state.
"This is very disheartening news at the Workforce Center, this resource has been a tremendous asset to the many laid-off individuals in our community seeking unemployment insurance benefits," Lawing said. "Being able to have a face-to-face conversation with staff from the Department of Labor alleviated the stress many individuals were having while filing benefit claims."
