Wiese takes over maintenance of the medical school at a time when it's expanding both facilities and mission. A 30,000-square-foot addition is under way, and the school's clinical program is going from two to four years.
"They're growing and going, and I'd like to be a part of that," Wiese said.
Wiese is responsible for supervision of renovation and construction projects, maintenance of landscape and facilities, and capital inventory management.
Wiese comes to the school from Agco Corp. in Hesston, where he was a continuous improvement engineer. He has an MBA in organizational management from Southwestern College. Off the job he enjoys restoring cars and trucks.
Wiese said the school's primary building was constructed in the 1950s, an addition dates to the '90s and the latest expansion began last year.
"I think the building overall is in pretty good shape, but there's a lot of fine-tuning to do — that's probably a good word to use," he said. "We'll continue to keep it as pristine as possible."
With a medical school, he said, "Things gotta work, and they need to be in pretty nice shape."
