Hawker Beechcraft to use Salina airport if it wins Air Force contract

Hawker Beechcraft said it signed an agreement with Salina Airport Authority to use the airport, its airspace and civilian and military resources for training for its light attack aircraft.

The U.S. Air Force plans to award a Light Air Support contract within the next six months.

If Hawker's plane is selected, pilot and maintenance training could begin in Salina in late 2012, the company said.

Hawker is developing a AT-6 light attack aircraft designed for use in counter-insurgency, close air support, armed overwatch, homeland defense and homeland security.
