There were 2,923 Kansas jobs lost in 23 mass layoffs during December, down significantly from the 4,878 lost in December 2009.
But December job losses were up from the 1,205 jobs lost in November and 737 lost in October. Seasonal factors may have contributed, such as laying off manufacturing workers during a holiday plant shut down or cutting extra retail workers after Christmas.
A mass layoff is 50 or more workers cut during a five week period.
