Mayfield shifts from GMAC to Real Living franchise

After more than two years in business and as a franchisee of GMAC Real Estate, Mayfield & Associates has begun operating under a different franchise.

The 13-agent firm, founded in April 2008 by broker and owner Gail Mayfield, has become a franchisee of Columbus, Ohio-based Real Living, a 10-year-old national real estate franchise.

The firm is now operating as Real Living Mayfield & Associates.

Mayfield said the reason behind her firm's new affiliation has more to do with circumstance than any unhappiness with GMAC Real Estate.

In late 2009 Brookfield Asset Management, which owns the two franchises, announced a plan to merge them into one, as Real Living.

Mayfield said it wasn't a given that she would remain with the resulting franchise.

"I had some options, and I did choose to go with the new company," Mayfield said.

She stayed, she said, because Real Living offers her firm a lot in the way of technology for both agents and consumers.

" (Real Living is) so ahead of the game with technology and just staying on top of Internet services," Mayfield said.

She said the firm should get Real Living yard signs in the next few weeks, as well as for the firm's office at Community Bank of Wichita's headquarters at 21st and Greenwich.

The affiliation with a lesser-known franchise makes it a little more challenging because Real Living isn't as familiar a brand as Coldwell Banker or Century 21, Mayfield said.

" (But) to me that gives me the opportunity to say, 'Let me tell you about us,' " she said. "We're real excited about what we have."
