Tim Witsman, president of the Wichita Independent Business Association, has been appointed to the Kansas Education Commission.
He was named co-chair of the college- and career-ready students subcommittee.
The commission will help state staff determine if new national English, language arts and math curriculum standards are appropriate, and what kind of training is needed to make them work, Witsman said.
"We want a smooth transition to the new standards for Kansas students. I also hope to bring the real-world needs of employers to the forefront when looking at what we are teaching the next generation of employees."
