Kansas' all-farm prices up from a year ago

Kansas' all-farm products price index for April was down 1 percent from March but up 11 percent for the same period a year ago, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Meat animals price index led the way, up 6 percent from March and 18 percent above April 2009. All-crops price index for April was down 7 percent and down 22 percent from a year ago.

Wheat prices in mid-April averaged $4.10 per bushel, down 24 cents from march and $1.26 below April 2009. Corn prices were $3.25 per bushel in April, down 27 cents from March and 45 cents below last April.

All-beef cattle averaged $100 per hundred weight in mid-April, up $4.60 from March and $13.50 above a year ago. All-hog prices were $50.20 per hundred weight in mid-April, up $2.00 from March and $11.40 above April 2009.
