Buyers, sellers scramble to meet credit deadline

One of the busiest weeks in recent memory wraps up today as agents, buyers and sellers scramble to get housing contracts written before the homebuyer tax credit deadline.

Contracts must be written by today and closed by June 30 for homebuyers to qualify for an $8,000 first-time tax credit or a $6,500 credit if a home has been owned in the past five years.

Brokerages across Wichita say April business has been consistently up, in part due to the rush to beat the deadline and also due to historically low interest rates.
