KU medical school chair wins alumnus award

Physician Russell Scheffer, who chairs the psychiatry and behavioral sciences department at the University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita, will receive the Early Career Achievement in Medicine Alumnus Award from the KU Medical Center Alumni Association.

The award goes to a graduate of the KU School of Medicine who has made outstanding contributions to the health care professions. It be presented in October.

Scheffer received his medical degree in 1991. He served on faculties at the Medical College of Georgia, Texas A&M Health Science Center, UT Southwestern Medical Center, and the Medical College of Wisconsin before joining the Wichita campus in 2007. He also serves as CEO of the Clinical Research Institute and medical director for behavioral health for Via Christi Health. He is regarded as an expert on child psychiatry.
