Rain delays Marine World opening

Les Eck was hoping he'd have the new location for Marine World open by now.

But May showers scuttled those hopes.

Now it looks like Monday will be the opening date, more than a month behind schedule.

"It kept on raining every third day (last month)," Eck said.

On Tuesday, workers were paving the lot at 7979 W. Kellogg Drive, which will be the new location for the boat and watercraft dealer Eck acquired more than four years ago.

Marine World, which sells MasterCraft and Malibu boats as well as Sea-Doo boats and watercraft, has been at Eck's Rusty Eck Ford dealership at 7310 E. Kellogg since the acquisition.

That meant boat service shared part of the service bays at Rusty Eck.

The move of Marine World, which will happen this weekend, allows Eck to double the capacity of the Ford dealership's no-appointment service business.

"We've slowed down a little bit," Eck said of Quick Lane service since the Marine World acquisition. "Our volume was increasing. We just didn't have enough (service) bays."

Eck, who bought the property out of auction, razed a temporary building at the site that was put up in 1969, when his father, Rusty, had a used car dealership there.

In its place he had constructed a 3,200-square-foot building that will serve as Marine World's showroom.

There also is a 3,000-square-foot service building behind the showroom that was already there.
