Spartech incentive up for vote

The Wichita City Council is expected to consider a $15,000 forgivable loan for Spartech Corp. on Tuesday.

The company plans to expand its business, adding additional warehouse space, machinery and equipment and another 28 jobs to its staff of 75, according to the council agenda and an announcement the Greater Wichita Economic Development Coalition made last month..

Sedgwick County also is going to provide a $15,000 loan. The loans will be used to offset construction and machinery and equipment costs.

Spartech, located at 1444 S. Tyler, produces plastic products such as polymeric compounds, concentrates, custom extruded sheet and rollstock products and packaging technologies.

It operates facilities in the United States, Mexico, Canada and France.

Spartech now operates in a 63,000-square-foot facility on Tyler Road. It also leases more than 100,000 square feet of warehouse space at the Garvey Complex nine miles south of the plant on Hoover Road.

The company plans to lease an additional 35,400 square feet of warehouse space.

And it plans to add another 28 jobs with an annual average salary of $35,000 and to invest about $7.5 million in new machinery and equipment.
