Three Kansas employers, including Wichita's Spirit AeroSystems, were named semifinalists for the 2010 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award.
Mavicor of Overland Park and the Lenexa Police Department were also selected.
The three are among 130 semifinalists from across the country that were selected from more than 2,500 nominations.
The award is the U.S. government's highest recognition given to employers for support of their employees serving in the Guard and the Reserve.
Some of the actions taken by the semifinalists include providing the difference between military and civilian pay during deployments, continuation of full benefits, care packages or family support to the employees fulfilling military obligations.
