Cancer Center wins accreditation for PET imaging

Cancer Center of Kansas has been accredited by the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Nuclear Medicine Laboratories for its positron emission tomography, or PET, imaging.

The accreditation program, headquartered in Columbia, Md., evaluates the quality of critical elements of PET imaging facilities as well as nuclear cardiology and general nuclear medicine laboratories.

Accreditation is voluntary, though the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services will begin requiring providers of advanced diagnostic imaging to obtain accreditation for reimbursement, effective Jan. 1, 2012.
