Kansas economy pointed toward growth, according to Creighton survey

WICHITA — Leading indicators for Kansas rose in February for the fourth month in a row, to 50.8, according to the Business Conditions Index for the Mid-America Region by Creighton University.

An index over 50 indicates growth.

Orders were at 54.7. production at 53.8, inventories at 56.7, but employment was at 34.8.

Kansas has lost 25,000 manufacturing jobs over the last year, 12 percent of manufacturing jobs, said survey author Ernie Goss.

He said he expects a few additional job losses by the second quarter of 2010.
