There were 2.24 million head of cattle on Kansas feedlots with 1,000 or more capacity, as of Feb. 1.
That's down 1 percent from a year ago and slightly below the number of a month ago.
Placements during January totaled 435,000 head, 9 percent higher than a year ago and 27 percent above December 2009 placements of 375,000 head.
Marketings during January totaled 475,000 head, 10 percent below January 2009 and 7 percent above the previous month. Other disappearance was 10,000 head, down 5,000 from a year ago and unchanged from the previous month.
The percent of January placements by weight was: under 600 pounds, 13 percent; 600-699 pounds, 26 percent; 700-799 pounds, 40 percent; and 800 pounds or more, 21 percent.
