Carriers expanded, upgraded wireless networks in Kansas in 2009

WICHITA — Two major mobile phone companies said they have added cell sites and expanded their service capabilities in Kansas in 2009.

AT&T said today that it added more than 25 new cell sites in the state and upgraded 13 others to third-generation wireless technology.

It spent more than $600 million on its Kansas network between 2007 and 2009, AT&T said.

Verizon Wireless said it spent more than $44 million in 2009 to build 18 new cell sites and upgraded equipment on existing cell sites to increase coverage and capacity of its third-generation network in Kansas.
