There were 9,056 home foreclosures in Kansas in 2009, a 45.6 percent increase from the year before, according to real estate data tracking firm RealtyTrac.
That amounted to one foreclosure for every 135 homes, according to the company.
That put the state 36th in the nation. Nevada ranked first with one foreclosure for every 10 homes, and Vermont was best, with one for every 2,178 homes.
