Hawker Beechcraft lays off 70

Hawker Beechcraft has issued 60-day layoff notices to 70 employees, the first layoffs by Wichita planemakers in 2010, according to information filed with the state.

Some of the employees work on the King Air line and some are material handlers, according to a union official.

Since late 2008, the company has cut 3,220 workers in Wichita and 267 at its Salina plant.

In all, Wichita's largest aircraft manufacturers have cut about 13,000 jobs in the downturn.
