Airbus North America Engineering plans to expand its Wichita operation, adding up to 80 positions with a projected annual payroll of $10 million.
The number of Airbus employees in Wichita would rise from 210 to about 290 over the next three years, with a total annual payroll of more than $40 million.
The new jobs will be mostly engineers who provide around the clock maintenance and repair support for the company's customers.
The new employees will work in the former Kansas Sports Hall of Fame building, 238 N. Mead, across the street from the present Airbus facility in Old Town.
Developer Dave Burk is buying the 26,000-square-foot building from the city of Wichita for $1.43 million and will lease it to Airbus.
The Greater Wichita Economic Development Coalition has worked with Airbus Engineering and coordinating state and local government efforts.
