Wichita school district closes on Bel Aire land deal

The Wichita school district closed this afternoon on 142 acres in Bel Aire, the first step in the construction of two new schools.

The district purchased 42 acres at the southeast corner of 53rd Street North and Woodlawn for a new K-8 school and 100 acres on 53rd just east of Rock Road for a new high school.

The school district bought land from the city of Bel Aire, paying $1.78 million for the properties.

Brent Stewart of J.P. Weigand in Wichita, who brokered the deal, said the school purchase is generating interest in other commercial lots nearby.

Stewart said work continues on a proposed industrial park nearby.
