The American Wind Energy Association has released the findings of an expert panel that concluded sounds generated by wind turbines are not harmful to human health.
Wind energy is a growing industry in Kansas. At least three Kansas companies produce small wind turbines, a $50 million Siemens wind turbine plant is planned in Hutchinson and Tindall Corp. plans a plant in Newton to manufacture concrete bases for wind turbines.
The multidisciplinary panel, established by the Wind Energy Association and the Canadian Wind Energy Association, which advocate for more wind power, reviewed current literature on the issue of perceived health effects and found that the sounds emitted by wind turbines are not unique, are at a level normally present in urban environments and do not present a risk to human health.
