New Gulfstream plane makes first test flight

SAVANNAH, Ga. —Gulfstream Aerospace says its new long-range G650 business jet has made its first test flight.

The company says test pilots made a 12-minute flight from Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport on Wednesday.

Gulfstream said in a news release that the plane reached an altitude of 6,600 feet and a speed of 170 knots, and that it performed as expected.

The plane, which is designed to have a range of 7,000 miles and a top altitude of 51,000 feet, is scheduled for certification in 2011 and for entry into service the following year.
