Workshops set for controlled burns

Fire safety will be the emphasis of 14 workshops on controlled burning scheduled from Tuesday through Dec. 7 in central and eastern Kansas.

Representatives from the Natural Resources Conservation Service, Farm Service Agency, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Kansas State University extension staff will conduct the workshops.

The annual burns are conducted in the spring on Kansas grasslands to enhance beef production and to protect the tallgrass prairie ecosystem.
