UPS Freight workers in Wichita ratify first contract

WICHITA — UPS Freight workers in Wichita and Federalsburg, Md., unanimously voted to ratify their first contract as Teamsters, the union said today.

The UPS workers in Wichita are represented by Teamsters Local 795. A news release issued Thursday afternoon did not say how many Wichita workers are covered by the contract and a call to the Teamsters was not immediately returned.

The Teamsters said it kicked off an organizing campaign in 2006 to organize UPS Freight workers.

With the contract ratification in Wichita and Maryland, the Teamsters said it represents nearly all of the 12,600 UPS Freight drivers and dock workers eligible to join the union.
