Nestor and Mike Weigand, brothers at the helm of Wichita's oldest residential and commercial real estate company, have been named the 2009 recipients of the Kansas chapter of the Certified Commercial Investment Members Lifetime Achievement Award.
The award, in its fifth year, honors an outstanding CCIM member from the Wichita real estate community. It will be presented by the CCIM chapter and the Wichita State University Center for Real Estate during a Dec. 11 luncheon at WSU.
"Anything that comes my way, I'm lucky and not deserving," Nestor Weigand said Friday from his downtown J.P. Weigand & Sons office.
"I'm very appreciative. It's a tremendous honor, and it's great to be honored with my brother, who's a special guy. It's flattering they chose to do this. It's a privilege for both of us to be recognized."

They are the fifth recipients of the award, joining Colby Sandlian, the late Jack Hunt, George Ablah and Jack DeBoer.
CCIM director David Leyh said the Weigand brothers have been instrumental in commercial real estate at a local, regional and national level.
"We honored both because they work together as a unit," Leyh said. "It's hard to separate them because they've been so dynamic. You think of one and you think of both of them together because they're a team.... Nestor and Mike have shaped our community and shaped our state."
The Weigand brothers have five decades in the family real estate business, founded in 1902 by their grandfather, John Patrick Weigand.
Mike Weigand joined the firm in 1957 when he returned from military service; Nestor joined the company in 1961.
Today, Nestor serves as chairman and CEO of the company. Mike is senior vice president.
Nestor has served as a member of the International Real Estate Federation since 1985 and served as the world president of FIABCI from 2001 to 2002. He also is a director of Regal Entertainment Group.
He also has served as president of the local and national boards of Realtors.
