Mid-Continent Safety moving to bigger home

A longtime Wichita company is moving to accommodate its sales growth.

Mid-Continent Safety will move this week from its 20-year location at 2909 S. Spruce to a bigger home at 8225 E. 35th St. North, company president Bob Dool said.

Mid-Continent is a distributor of industrial safety supplies and services, after being founded 71 years ago as an equipment provider to natural gas companies.

Sales are up, Dool said, and the new headquarters provides room for that growth and future expansion.

"It's more of a move to the next level for our business," Dool said. "Michaelis Real Estate has been our landlord for the past 20 years, and they showed us an opportunity to get into a facility we could design to make work the way we want it to work as the company continues to grow."

Dool said the new 18,000-square-foot location, just east of Rock Road and north of K-96, also provides easy access for employees and the company's sales team.

The new building will include a large conference room with high-tech video equipment by McClelland Sound, used for seminars and product safety demonstrations.

Dool said the move will allow his company to expand, primarily into more service-related work on self-contained breathing and gas detection equipment.

Mid-Continent, with 20 employees, 10 in Wichita, represents more than 100 suppliers, Dool said. It has locations in Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Nebraska and Iowa.

Its primary clients include the petrochemical industry, including gas pipelines, refineries, construction companies and municipalities.

The company offers its equipment in a catalog and on its Web site, www.midsafe.com.
