Riverfest 2014: Joan Jett, Grandmaster Flash headline concerts

Riverfest is falling into place. The buttons are designed, the official Admiral Windwagon Smith chosen and, to add to the excitement, Wichita Festivals has announced the 2014 concert lineup.

On May 31, Jerrod Niemann will headline the Coleman Country Concert with Chuck Wicks as the opener. On June 1, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts will finish the daylong Salute to Aviation. And on June 4, hip-hop artist Grandmaster Flash will DJ the Wet & Wild Neon Dance Party.

R&B artist Kelley Hunt will play June 5 during the Cajun festivities held at Kennedy Plaza. On June 6, the Indie Showcase on Kennedy Plaza will feature the Mowglis and Wild Child.

The Romantics, of “What I Like About You” fame, will play on the WaterWalk stage June 6. The festival will come to a close June 7 with the Spirit AeroSystems Rockin’ on the River concert with Marky Ramone’s Blitzkrieg, a Ramones tribute featuring the former band’s drummer.

The festival will also feature several local and regional acts like Carrie Nation & The Speakeasy, Choro Cats, DJ Carbon, Green River Ordinance, Honkey Suckle, Timmy Jonas and the Whiskey Militia, Soleb Theory, Japanese Game Show, Nouveau Quintette, Peculiar Pretzleman, O’Phil and Vagabond Swing, among others.

Admission is to the concerts is included with the purchase of a Riverfest button. Buttons are $5. Buttons for ages 6-12 are $3. Buttons can be purchased at Dillons, QuikTrip and AAA starting May 9.
