The Outdoor Living and Landscape Show – the latest version of Wichita’s garden show – will be a little later in March this year. The show, along with its predecessor, the Wichita Garden Show, had been the first weekend of March for years and years. But this year, it will be the third weekend of March – the 14th through the 16th.
Daylight saving time will even have begun by then.
Show organizer Brad Horning of Entercom Radio says the reason for the later date is that an event had already been booked at Century II; the venue’s website lists the Kansas Music Educators Association in-service workshop Feb. 27 through March 1.
“It’s not anything we chose,” Horning said. “All of our garden builders and landscapers are saying they are wishing it to be a little earlier.”

However, “the majority are staying on board. ... Hopefully we’ll all get through it together. The weather will be the key.”
If you’ll recall, spring weather was late in arriving last year – “it snowed in May,” Horning reminds – so it’s always impossible to know what the ideal timing of a garden event will be.
