Sunny skies will prevail in the Wichita area today, forecasters say, and temperatures will climb significantly.
But winds will, too, putting some bite into what would otherwise be a much more pleasant day than the first two days of the work week. Highs should reach the mid-40s, forecasters say, but south winds will intensify as the day extends – gusting at times to nearly 35 miles an hour.
Overnight lows will bottom out in the upper 20s under mostly clear skies, with the southerly winds remaining robust. Steady breezes will be in the upper teens to mid-20s, with gusts reaching the mid-30s.
Thursday should offer more clouds as temperatures approach 50, forecasters say. The south winds will be strong in the morning, gusting again above 30 miles an hour before easing in the afternoon.

Those winds will shift to the north-northwest overnight, as temperatures settle in the low 20s, before Friday arrives with another round of colder weather. Highs will only make it to the mid-30s, forecasters say.
