Several schools in the Wichita area have been recognized with the Governor’s Achievement Award, which honors the top schools in the state.
Statewide, 42 elementary schools, 10 middle or junior high schools and 18 high schools were honored.
To receive the award, schools must be in the top 5 percent of schools in both reading and math on the state assessments and meet goals for attendance or graduation rate.

Area schools that were honored include:
Elementary schools: Apollo Elementary, Goddard; Bostic Traditional Magnet, Wichita; Oatville Elementary, Haysville; St. Joseph Elementary, Conway Springs; St. Patrick Catholic Elementary, Kingman; St. Joseph Elementary, Mount Hope; Trinity Lutheran Elementary, Winfield; Wellington Christian Academy, Wellington; and Wheatland Elementary, Andover.
Middle schools: Andover Central Middle School, Andover; Dwight D. Eisenhower Middle School, Goddard.
High schools: Conway Springs High School, Garden Plain High, and Kapaun Mount Carmel High School.
