Sedgwick County sheriff’s deputies are investigating an outbreak of burglaries and larcenies in an area around Broadway and 87th Street South.
According to the sheriff’s office there have been 28 thefts in the area in the last month, and 11 in the last week, including five on Friday when somebody went house to house in the area near 1300 E. 89th St. South around 6:40 a.m. as people were opening their homes and garages to go to work.
Somebody dashed into the garages and broke into cars, quickly stole property, then moved on to the next house, said Lt. David Mattingly.
Stolen items included extension cords that thieves can strip for copper wiring.

Mattingly said those cases may be connected to a stolen-car case that was reported at 12:55 a.m. on Monday by a homeowner who lives near 81st Street South and Broadway.
In that case, the homeowner told deputies a man had entered his residence through an unlocked back door. He then saw the man run through the backyard, get into a newer-model, dark-colored, extended-cab pickup and leave going east on 81st Street South.
The truck has not been found.
