Police: Man trying to collect money is stabbed with screwdriver

A 33-year-old man told police he was trying to collect a debt when he was stabbed in the neck with a screwdriver before midnight on Friday.

The man told police that friends had asked him to collect a $2,200 debt from two people who owed them money, said Sgt. Bruce Watts said Saturday.

The man said he took a motorcycle belonging to the people who owed the money and was holding it for ransom until the money was paid back. He told police that the pair saw him riding the motorcycle and confronted him near College Hill Park swimming pool at 304 S. Circle Drive.

He jumped off the motorcycle, he said, and one of the two punched him in the face and the other one stabbed him with the screwdriver.

No arrests have been made.
