Wichita Collegiate senior named semifinalist in National Achievement Scholarship Program

A senior at Wichita Collegiate School has been named a semifinalist in the National Achievement Scholarship Program, which is run by the National Merit Scholarship Corp.

Micah Watson, the daughter of Ed and Gidget Watson, is one of eight students from Kansas – and the only one in Wichita – to receive the honor. She also was named a Commended Student in the competition.

More than 1,600 African-American high school seniors were designated semifinalists based on their scores on the Preliminary SAT. Most are expected to become finalists this spring and will compete for about 800 scholarships worth about $2.5 million.
